Team requirements

Insurance

Every sanctioned team carries two coverages. Here's what they are, why they matter, and where to get them.

Insurance isn't red tape — it's what lets a facility hand you the keys to their fields and what protects your families if a player gets hurt. Top Dawg requires proof of both coverages before a team's sanction is approved. You'll upload your certificate of insurance (COI) during team registration; our directors review it within two business days.

Team general liability

Covers the team as an organization — property damage at a facility, injuries to spectators, and the “additional insured” requirement most parks demand before you can practice or play there. Typically $2M aggregate.

Participant accident

Covers your players. If a girl takes a bad hop off the face or rolls an ankle stealing second, this pays medical costs after the family's primary insurance. It's the coverage parents will thank you for having.

Where to buy it

You can use any licensed provider. Most of our teams use our partner broker, who quotes both coverages together in about five minutes and issues the COI the same day:

You'll leave topdawgfastpitchsoftball.com — quotes and purchases happen on the broker's site, not here. Come back and upload your COI when you have it.

What the COI needs to show

  • Your team name exactly as registered with Top Dawg
  • Both coverages, with limits and policy dates that cover the season
  • “Top Dawg Fastpitch” listed as an additional insured (your broker will know what this means)

Already covered through another sanctioning body?

If your existing policy names the venues and dates you'll play under Top Dawg, it usually qualifies. Upload the COI during registration and we'll confirm.

Need to replace an expiring certificate?

Open your team in the coach dashboard and upload the new COI there. Your sanction stays active as long as there's no gap in coverage.
